Cardio Helps You Survive Zombies

by Helen M. Ryan

Is cardio better than HIIT?

We’ve had this discussion before. Longer bouts of cardio for endurance, or shorter HIIT sessions for cardiovascular strength?

The answer is even simpler than we’ve previously discussed: CARDIO.

Why? You can outrun zombies when you have good endurance. There’s a reason why CARDIO is Zombieland Rule #1.

Doing HIIT will help you sprint away from zombies with power and force, but you won’t be able to outrun them for long. With HIIT, you’re all about quick power moves. When running for your life, you need that stamina, baby.

If you do too much high intensity interval training you will burn out and possibly over-train.

If you do just endurance-type cardio (unless you're running a marathon or participating in long cycling events), your body will adapt and won't be challenged.

Of course, the best way to survive in a zombie apocalypse is to have done a lot of endurance cardio training to keep going the distance, with a little HIIT now and then for extra power to escape.

Cardio combined with HIIT can help you lose weight faster, too.

Variety is the spice of life, as they say. But variety in exercise is what changes your body. Your mind will also not get as bored.

But still. Rule #1.
