What Doesn't Kill You...
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stand a little taller... ~Kelly Clarkson
I am totally not a fan of Ms. Clarkson (I prefer more, shall we say, alternative rock). But this song...well this song is motivating for so many of us, and not just when it comes to working out.
I recently wrote an article for Spinning.com with this exact title. In it, I muse about the life changes that can occur with exercise. Exercise doesn't give you just physical benefits (like a nicer booty or greater endurance), but it also provides you with mental benefits. Exercise teaches you to keep trying and not give up. It gives you the mental stamina to plow through tough projects, get through challenging times in your life, and finish what you start. It changes who you are, at your core. Little-by-little, day-by-day, class-by-class, kettlebell swing by kettlebell swing.
This is why people will never buy "fitness in pill form." It's the experience of the journey that makes you stronger and more fulfilled—not arriving at your destination.
